I have lived in the same neighborhood for 16 years ,it's off in the boondocks neighbors have always been friendly and tollerent. It has been a place I have always felt safe.Everywhere else I have lived I had some form of harrassment even growing up in my school till I quit because of.Sometime last night or early this morning someone used a baseball bat on our mailbox. It is salvageable and not totally damaged but knocked two of the reflectors off.I suspect my neighbors teenage boys.I warned the two ladies on the other end of the road.I have a feeling this may only be the beginning. Will there ever be a time when GLBT people can live their lives without incidence?I feel my space has been violated and will never feel the same here again. Some may say it's only a mailbox,Yes it is ,but who knows what a mailbox will lead to>Take it from someone who has been there. Thanks for reading this.
Wow, I hope that someday we can all live, with no fear in this world, but apparently it's not that time yet... I am currently looking to buy a house, and I am so terrified that I will end up next to the wrong people, I certainly don't want to feel in danger, and don't want to worry about neighbors poisoning my dogs or anything. I just wish we didn't all have to be so scared. Thank you so much for sharing!
You are welcome Liz but found out it was a random act. State Police came to the house last night to fill out a report.Evidently all my neighbors my end of the road all got hit. Some worst then ours. Its sad that this happens but it would have been worse if it was a hate crime. We are still more careful now and make sure to keep doors locked when getting dark. It's still a hard world even though it's 2009 .THe neighborhood here has always been peaceful this must have been people outside of the neighborhood looking for kicks and since we live so far in the woods its easier to do unnoticed.Houses are a distance from each other.Thats why the houses on the other end didn't get hitthey are closer together. Thanks again for sharing..
Hey Liz ,I thank you for sharing too.I hope I see the day that all our community will be safe from ignorant people. It's been a long haul but we are getting there slow but surely.Maine has come a long way at 52 i have seen alot and I saw victory in getting our rights and also a Marriage Law that passed quickly from the Senate, legislators and house and the Governor.Even though we have a peoples veto going on right now we are just getting closer to getting full rights.Quite an accomplishment.Keep the faith and stay safe Liz,thanks again.

Russell, sorry to hear of your trouble there, but glad to hear it was only a random act. I have to tell you a little story about smashed mailboxes. My father lived for many years (in Northern Ky.) on a winding road - at a bend in the road with the next house on down the way. No matter what he did, he could not keep a mailbox intact !! It sat out at the road, and was a target for all the local teens to smash - again and again ! They would hit it with baseball bats, hit it with golf clubs, anything and everything they would use to smash it down.. He finally got a big super industrial strength one on a sturdier pole, - and guess what ? They blew it up with firecrackers ! I think they once knocked one down with their car also ! The post office would keep his mail at the PO Office because they knew his box was always getting destroyed, and he would have to go get it there. So, yes, it really sucks that it happened to you and your neighbors, but kids will do crap like that w/o even realizing the fear it put in you ! Hope they were outsiders as you said, and it doesn't happen again. Yes it is a hard - crazy ass world, be strong ! We here at ImGay.Tv love you and send you much strength and the Power of Protection through White Light !
Thanks so much for sharing and sorry I am so late on replying Kelly. It is starting to get a little calmer and preparing ourselves for Pride in Portland, Maine on the 20th and also going to Bostons Pride the 13th ,busy month.Stay healthy and safe !!!
