Well I've was in the closet for some 40+ years. I'm a transwomen who has moved on past the transgender community and am considered soft butch lesbian by most of my friends. Served 7.5 years in the Navy and 10 years in the Army. At that time they said try one, but I had to be different and try two. Always thought of myself as being a little weird and didn't really find out who I was until later in life. Didn't get much flack in service as I would always keep my personal behavior to myself. Activist within the community. Volunteered for Fair Wisconsin and was Vice President of the Wisconsin Cream City Chorus. My greatest accomplishment I believe was helping to establish Vets Do Ask Do Tell. I work in a clinic serving low income and no income families. Own my own business and am totally out.
To all my new friends....
I've been extremely busy over the last few weeks and haven't had time for much. Will try to be more attentive in the weeks to come.
Welcome Ellen! - just checked out vetsdoaskdotell.org - Great site - thanks for establishing this! - Although I'm not a vet my brother was - he died from cancer but I firmly believed it was from everything that went down for him in Vietnam - Including "hiding" his sexual orientation - we'll never know - but we know - if you know what I mean? - If you'd please post some of the vids from the site here as well that would help - I encourage everyone to spread the word about this organization ::)) - Again welcome Ellen and thank you for your courage!
