About Me:
I am employed as a Latin and English Language Arts tutor, but my vocation is to be a writer. I have written poetry, some of it published by the online cross-disability literary journal "Breath and Shadow," also articles and movie reviews, published by "Spare Change," "Voices for Change," and "IN Newsweekly."
I am bisexual.
I am currently working on a novel, called "Yours, Loco," about a man with clinical depression and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), who is working at changes in his romantic, vocational, and job life.
Of course, the photo is of Tom Cruise, an amusing picture easily transferred from my Downloads.

Two dinner parties, and how they flew

Recently, I took a course called "Six Weeks, Six Essays." I wanted to learn how to write the personal essay. Unfortunately, halfway through the course, I had to drop out. I was trying to juggle too many things that demanded a lot of my attention and time. Anyway, the first assignment was to write an essay on a "food memory." My essay ended up focusing on two dinner parties that I gave, while I was still living with my parents (and had access to a kitchen and dining room). Here's the excitement--… Continue

Going Inventively Jobless (Rebuttal to Richard Bolles)--the opening

I don't like most of this essay that I wrote about 5 years ago, but I do like the opening:

What do you want? How do you get there?
Reasonable questions that lodged in the back of my head.
"I don't believe that you want to teach," Professor Cottle had declared.
Usually, his declarations were intended to provoke discussion, but this one had a tone of irrefutable conviction. I respected and admired Thomas Cottle. I had been stirred and challenged by his course on at-risk children, at the BU School… Continue

first paragraph of an old short story

Initially, I was interested in writing fiction, but I have not been able to place stories anywhere. I keep a few stories in a file anyway. This is the opening of one of the stories I've kept. It is a true story that a church member, Mark, told me about his violent break-up with a partner, Manny. I was interested in the story, and I titled my version of Mark's story "Firing Romeo." Here goes--

Mark had appeal, but not sex appeal, like Michelangelo's David. His torso did not curve and chisel in t… Continue

Lips of Light

This is a poem I wrote, at a workshop at the Boston Center for Adult Education. It is about my pastor at MCC-Boston, a ministry for the LGBT population, and my feelings for him, then. It is also about his friend Charmaine, who now lives in Holyoke. (No, there is no girlfriend. I am a Charmaine fan, so I gave her a girlfriend in the poem.)

LIPS OF LIGHT

His mouth hovers mysteriously near
a smile again. I know his work bores him
unless maybe he finds satisfaction
somewhere between his desktop co… Continue

It is a frozen yogurt like tangy treat in flavors like pomegranet, green tea and original with or without toppings. but it is a spiritual, transending experience, hence the double double trouble brothan. no one has ever had it only once....no one. Fer real. How are you handsome?

Life is a mixture of "playing the hand you are dealt" and what we make of it. Though I am chronologically in one place, mentally I have the wisdom of experience, and yet maintain a child's wonder at the world. I was like a child discovering a new treasure when my moon vine finally bloomed! That childlike wonder, and the continuous need to learn and discover are gifts of life that keep me young. I keep my needs simple so that my joys are great. There are days I would love a little boredom----but alas, I am doomed to be always intrigued with a mind that never stops! Thank God I don't need much sleep, I don't want to miss anything! Keep up the writing!
